A great weekend for the Cannons with wins in all 3 games against East Coast Cricket Club.
Our 40 over team kicked off the weekend, bowling them out for 263 in the 40th over. Kevin Tuvar was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 wickets, while the likes of Jawad Naimat, Harman Singh, Gaganpreet Singh and Kanwaljeet Singh all showed they have what it takes against top level batsmen with good spells. Jeben Roach continued his good form with 2 wickets.
Daksh Talwar was a man in a hurry in the chase, hitting 50 off 34 balls before being first dismissed with the score on 80 after 10.1 overs. His opening partner Andrew Irving (49 off 58) then continued to build the chase with Arslan Khan (26 off 34), before his dismissal at 144 triggered a collapse of 5/32. Sagar Mandhan and Kanwal put on a partnership of 41, but again we lost both in quick succession to be 8/221, needing 43 off 33 balls. Enter Jawad, who with the help of Harman, knocked these runs off in only 2.3 overs, Jawad ending up unbeaten on 35 off only 16 balls! A win with 2 wickets and 18 balls to spare, a club record chase, and has us finishing 3-0 at the end of the league phase with the Final on Sep 23. Scorecard
Division 2 batted first and slumped to 8/46 due to some loose shots. Priyank Trivedi (30* off 31) played brilliantly and showed up his top order colleagues, putting on 48 with Kevin and an unbeaten 19 with Gagan to takes us to 9/113 off 20 overs and give us some chance.
When they were 1/59 after 5.4, we again looked to be in a hopeless position, but a smart stumping by Saravana Chandran to assist Hiren Patel take his 2nd wicket removed their dangerman. From here, Kevin and Nihar Shah spun a web around their middle and lower order, while Kanwal and Gagan assisted with tight spells into the wind to build pressure. Nihar also contributed from mid wicket with 2 run outs as the batsmen started panicking. Kevin started his last over, the 18th, with 8 runs to win and 2 wickets to get. He got an LBW off the 2nd ball then held on to a return chance off the 4th ball to wrap up a memorable 7 run win, as we took the last 9 wickets for 47. Scorecard
Division 1 played straight after and continued the momentum picking up 3 wickets in the power play. Jawad claimed his maiden Div 1 wicket with the big scalp of a provincial opener, and Daksh struck with his first 2 balls with good catches from stand-in skipper Zeeshan Ansari at long off. Even as their middle order built a couple of partnerships, we didn't let them get away too much, and then Shadab Ahmed (2 wickets) and Antony Roche (3) cleaned up their tail taking the last 5 wickets for only 9 runs to keep them to 145 all out in 19.3 overs.
Danish Khan and Rudy Audikesavalu put on 45 in the powerplay without loss, before both fell within the next couple of overs. Daksh and Antony then continued on from their bowling form, combining to put on 84 to take us to within 4 runs of victory. 3 late wickets would only delay the inevitable, a boundary from Zee sealing a 5 wicket win with 16 balls to spare. A massive result as it gives us sole possession of 3 place with 2 games to play. Scorecard
