Weekend Recap July 4-6, 2025

Friday

Division 2 vs Hfx-Titans CC - Bowling first, Tanmay Rajput (2/19 off 4) was a late inclusion into the lineup but made an early impact, removing their captain in the first over. Some tight bowling led to our next wicket, Nihar Shah making a great diving stop at cover point affecting a run out at the keeper's end. All of our bowlers kept it very tight, with Nihar doing the most damage with 3/34 off his 4. Titans ended ip with 8/113 off their 20.

Our chase started in disastrous fashion losing two wickets before a run had been scored. Regular wickets followed, with only Hiren Patel (22 off 18) showing any ability to score freely. Disappointingly, we fell well short of what should have been a successful chase, all out for 92 at the start of the last over. We will need to revisit our batting strategy before our return fixture against Titans next week. Scorecard

Saturday

Division 1 vs East Coast CC - After the loss of 3 wickets in the powerplay, Div 1 debutant Karanbir Singh (36 off 24) and skipper Zeeshan Ansari (27 off 28) combined for a 58 runs stand to set us up to post a good score. That was not to be however, as we lost our last 7 wickets for just 28 runs in 6 overs to be all out in the 20th for 121.

We were not able to get the early breakthroughs that we needed, waiting until the 10th over to strike. 3 wickets to Sagar Mandhan (3/17 off 4), one to Daksh Talwar and a run out saw a collapse of 5/18, and all of a sudden we were right in it with ECCC needing 52 off 40 with half their lineup back in the sheds. Further success would elude us however, and they passed us with 3 balls to spare handing us our first loss of the league season. Scorecard

Division 4 vs Hfx-Titans CC - Titans openers rewarded their captain's call to bat first, putting on 50 without loss in the first 8 overs. The introduction into the attack of Jay Perumalsamy turned the game on its head though, delivering a spell of 3/11 off 4 to halt their progress. He would be assisted by Germanjeet Gill (1/14 off 3) and Ashwin Srinivasan (2/22 off 4) who took out their middle order. Arun Kuriakose bowled well at both bookends of the innings taking 1/14 off his 3. Titans all out 111 after 19.

In what unfortunately is becoming Cannons fashion in 2025, the chase went nowhere as we fell to 7/62 after 13.2 overs. With 50 off 40 required, German and our youngster Hussain Taimoor still believed, and with a mix of good running and punishing the loose balls, produced a 42 run stand off only 27 balls before Hussain was out for a superb 30 off 19 (2x4, 2x6). Our 9th wicket fell next ball, leaving our last pair 8 to get from 12 balls. Last man Ragu joined German and 7 balls later, hit the winning runs to cap off one of the great Cannons wins. German seeing us through with 21 not out from 20 balls. Scorecard
