Weekend Recap August 23-25, 2025

Saturday

Division 4 vs East Coast CC - Batting first upon winning the toss, Grant Whitcombe continued his hot streak hitting 54 from 29 balls before being controversially run out with the score on 84 after 8 overs. Amjad Raza supported him in this stand with 32 off 24. After their dismissals, the scoring slowed down, with only Jayachandran Perumalsamy (25 off 14) and Hussain Taimoor (16 off 18) playing innings of any note. All out 162 in 19.1 overs was still a good score, but well below what we should have got after that start.

Success with the ball would be minimal, only Jay 1/19 off 4) and Germanjeet Gill (1/19 off 2) taking wickets as East Coast passed our score with 8 wickets and 3 balls to spare.  Scorecard

Sunday

Division 1 vs Scotia Strikers CC - Sent in to bat first, Fenil Patel (33 off 29) and Arslan Khan (36 off 24) started our innings well adding 61 off the first 7.2 overs. We would lose 4 wickets within 6 overs, but Antony Roche (46 off 30) and Karanbir Singh (29 off 18) added an unbroken 68 from the last 6.4 overs to lift us to 4/162 off our 20.

Our bowlers never let Strikers get close, consistently picking up wickets and keeping the scoring rate well lower than needed. Daksh Talwar was the best with 3/19 off 4, after Arif Hussen had taken 2 of his own. Strikers ended at 6/129 off 20, a 33 run win for us.  Scorecard

Division 4 vs Hfx-Titans CC - Again following the template of batting first, we had some starts in the top order, but nothing significant as we struggled to 5/74 after 12. Fresh off his maiden 50 last week, Mehak Babbar rescued the innings with 54 from only 35 balls, dominating a 57 runs 6th wicket partnership with German (13). His knock lifted us to a competitive 7/156 after 20.

Early wickets would be key, and Tanmay Rajput delivered again with 2 in his opening spell. Our bowlers did a good job containing through the middle overs with 2 wickets to Paul Chan Chow in the 11th over putting he game in our favour. Titans hit back, and got themselves into a position with 8 needed off the last over, 2 wickets in hand. Tanmay was tasked with defending these, and bowled a superb over conceding only 4 runs from the first 5 balls. 4 to win off the last, mid off up in the circle. The ball was lofted towards the boundary, but our fielders kept their calm in keeping it to only 2, for a one run win! Tanmay finishing with 3/20 off 4. Scorecard

Division 3 vs Scotia Strikers CC - Shakti Badgujar played his best knock in Cannon colours, his 46 off 33 getting the team off to a great start as he combined with stand-in skipper Andrew Irving (42 off 35) to put on 84 within the first 10 overs. Unfortunately the second 10 would see only 67 further runs scored as our middle and lower order struggled to find momentum, with 7/151 being the final score.

Our bowlers did a good job keeping the scoring rate below the target, and an upbeat fielding unit took the chances offered to see the game in the balance at 5/90 off 13, with the asking rate up to 9. Unfortunately the execution dropped off a little from here and Strikers middle order took advantage, passing our target with 4 wickets and 7 balls to spare. Still, a good fighting effort from a team that consisted of multiple players short on game time this season. Scorecard
